Hi all, well, what do you think of my poll? Let us know what got you into wearing footed blanket sleepers again. Was it that you saw someone wearing one, and since you hadn't worn one since you were 4 years old,you wanted to try on a pair, and found that you loved footed pajamas? Did you hate them as a little kid,but when you "re-discovered" them, you found that you really loved them,or at least wearing that first pair since you were 4 years old, made you fall in love with wearing footed blanket sleepers? Well, please share us your stories, and maybe I'll share mine, thanks!

Hi- I am also a blanket sleeper lover. I wore them until I was about 13 or so.That was when Sears had the Pooh sleepers up to size 14.I put up with some good-natured ribbing for wearing them, but I didn't mind. No one in my family cared- they were just pajamas. I probably would have continued wearing footed pajamas but could not find them in my size when I outgrew my Pooh sleepers. About 3 years later, I was at a store and found Dr. Denton's which went in sizes all the way up to size boy's 16/18. I couldn't believe it! I bought a few pairs, which I wore until they turned to rags. Unfortunately, these were discontinued, but by that time, Dr. Denton's were making them in women's sizes. I bought a few of them-a sleeper is a sleeper- right? After Denton's company folded, I found sleepers on the Web- (Lands' End, Warmth Wear, Komfy Kozy). Some of these were actually better-made than the traditional store bought ones of the past. I've got several pairs now, including some of my old sleepers I've had since I was a kid.I'll never outgrow my fondness for sleepers as long as they continue to make them. I think everybody would wear them if given a chance. I'm always happy to correspond with anybody who shares my interest in footies. Regards, Jeremy.

My Experiences with Blanket Sleepers

Posted by footedblanketsleepersrule on 2003-09-28 04:24:22
Hi,I don't have all night,so I'm going to make this short, but I stopped wearing blanket sleepers the first time when I was 4,or 5 years old.In fact, that's around the age that me,and both of my sisters stopped wearing them (we're all now in our 20's,so this was quite some time ago, now). That might've been because we grew out of the biggest sizes by then,or it could've been because my parents felt that once we got past being 5 years old,we were all too old to wear footie pajamas to bed. I think I remember wearing the blanket sleepers with the zipper tabs on them until I was 5 years old.The last blanket sleeper my parents made me wear was this yellow,Winnie-the-Pooh one from Sears, probably a size 7,or 8 sleeper. It wasn't until 10 years later, about 10 years ago, that I started wearing sleepers again, and it was mostly because I was experimenting with them. You see,I went into this store in my town that had some blanket sleepers up to size 14,and when I saw this size 14 Carter's blanket sleeper,it looked big enough to fit me,so I bought this thing, wanted to see what it was like to wear a blanket sleeper again, and I fell in love with the feel of being in this one-piece,footed,blanket sleeper, with my feet encased in the sleeper feet, and all, that from then on,I was in love with the feel of being in a blanket sleeper, and 10 years later,I still am.

Pajamas and Sleep - What to Consider When Buying Pajamas for Children

Don't Let your Children's Pajamas Steal Their Sleep (and Yours)

Your children will need pajamas for night time use. Pajamas can affect your child's sleep and yours. Soon after the birth of your first child or when your child first joins your family, nights will never be the same. You don't want pajamas to make bedtime more complicated. Even if your child is a wonderful sleeper you will probably be sleeping less as you wake to feed or to simply check on them. In Sleep -Bedtime Routine we talk about things you can do to help ease the bedtime routine and have a better night's sleep. Sleep problems in children are one of the biggest cause of  a parents lack of sleep. Here we will discuss the pajama angle; choosing pajamas and how children's pajamas affect their sleep.

For Children Pajamas are About Style and Comfort

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of pajamas is comfort. One of our staff members remembers the trouble she had in finding pajamas for her youngest son. As an infant his night clothes had to be just perfect. Not only in terms of materials but patterns and colors too. Plus, he would not sleep if he had on footed pajamas or a footed blanket sleeper but instead needed to wear socks with his footless pajamas and footless sleepers. Five years later he is still particular about his night clothes and he still wears socks to bed. Some children will be very particular from an early age so take note as to your child's sleep patterns and the clothing worn at night. If your young child is having trouble sleeping and you've eliminated other causes try changing style and or fabric of pajamas and even the color of the pajamas. It just might help.
There is a huge selection of pajamas available, from 2 piece sets to just bottoms or tops to mix and match. For your infants and very young child experiment to find what is best for them. Let your older child select their own sleepwear. As long as they are warm enough, comfortable and safe you'll all sleep better.

Cotton Pajamas or Cotton Poly Blends

For many children, pajamas that are 100% cotton will be the most comfortable though some children will prefer polyester-cotton blends. The more important feature is the fit and style of the pajama. Older children will be able to tell you what they like from fabric to style to design and characters. Usually a minimum of 3 sets per season will allow them to have at least one change in their drawers at all times. An infant or older baby might need more pajamas or sleepers, 5-6 sets because of diaper leakage or spitting up at night. Infants, older babies and toddlers may also need blanket sleepers because a blanket or quilt use might not be safe or practical. Some toddlers move around at night and it can be very difficult to keep a blanket on.
Be careful to inspect the pajamas to make sure there is not a safety concern, no loose appliqués or iron-ons. Make sure pajamas are comfortable and fit correctly. Some pajamas are designed to be worn tight, others are to be worn loose depending if the material is flame retardant, check the label to be sure. It is also very important that your child is comfortable. Some children find buttons annoying, others dislike zippers on blanket sleepers. When using zippered blanket sleepers be sure to tuck the zipper tag in so it does not jab into your baby's neck. Make sure elastic around ankles and wrists is not too binding and constrictive. It is much easier with older children because they can tell you what they like or dislike but with infants and toddlers you might have to experiment. Some girls may like to sleep in a night gown or sleep shirt others may find the twisting of clothing at night annoying.

Robes and Slippers Too

It is always a good idea to have a robe and pair of slippers for toddlers and older children. Perfect for after bath during reading time and also for when they are not feeling well and are laying on couch. Robes can be bought in a bigger size and used for a couple of years. Just be sure the robe is not so big they will trip when walking.

Is Your Child Having Trouble Sleeping

If your child is having trouble sleeping what is next?  We suggest that you read our section on Sleep Problems and the Bedtime Routine. Evaluate your child's bedtime routine and try choosing different pajamas.

Where to buy adult blanket sleepers from answerbag.com

Winter can be cold, and staying warm is important for comfort and overall health. Adult blanket sleepwear will definitely help ward off the chill as the temperature outside drops. But sleepwear blankets are not always easy to find.

Consider a few different sources when shopping for blanket sleepwear. The most common adult blanket sleepwear contains polyester or cotton fabrics. Get out and try on a few different varieties to help you decide which is the best fabric for you.

Shopping Online

You will be hard pressed to find a retail store in your neighborhood that sells a wide variety of adult sleepwear blankets. Use your computer to fulfill your needs. There are sites dedicated to blanket sleepwear on the web. Find them by using the correct keywords in your search.

Point your browser to sites such as eBay, Amazon, Google or Bing and type the following: "adult+blanket+sleepwear." This will provide you a vast array of options.

Look for websites with special offers on shipping. Blanket sleepwear can be heavy. The retail market is very competitive right now. You should be able to quickly find what you are looking for.

Brick and Mortar Stores

The popularity of items such as the Snuggie have made blanket sleepers and other comfort items much more readily available at local stores. The winter season is your best bet when shopping for items such as blanket sleepers.

Stores such as Walmart, JCPenney and Sears commonly stock adult sleepwear during the holiday gift-giving season, and they are often discounted during this time.

Quick Style and Pricing Guide

Have an idea what you are looking for when you search for blanket sleepwear. Consider the level of warmth that you would like. For the ultimate level of warmth, consider adult-sized footy pajamas. Parents put these on children for a reason. They keep the youngsters feeling warm and safe.

If you are not comfortable with having your feet covered, or you do not need the amount of warmth that footy pajamas provide, consider a one-piece style with cuffed bottoms. It is common for people not to want to sleep with socks on or otherwise have their feet covered, and this style will solve that problem.

For the last couple of years people have really taken to the Snuggie brand of adult blanket sleepwear. Millions have been sold on television and they are now common fixtures at retail stores. They are essentially a blanket with arm holes and they will most certainly keep you warm. Snuggies are known to be used for lounging and relaxing but also are marketed as a comfortable pajama solution.

Plan to spend about $20 to $30 for a Snuggie brand item and between $20 and $50 for a pair of adult-sized pajamas in a footy- or non-footy style.

There used to be a few sites on the net, that used to sell adult blanket sleepers. However, the one I used(which seemed to have been the best one I've found), seemed to have went out of business in late 2007. However, their site lives on in enfamy (www.warmthwear.com)-they must obviously be waiting for a person to take over their business.

There was once another company, that had adult blanket-sleepers. However, once I bought a few, about a month later, all the zippers broke, and had to be replaced. They had a long list of things, and so, we just decided to replace them manually.

There is also the much taunted JumpinJammerz company(www.jumpinjammerz.com). However, I noticed that, with this company, they don't put that white skid-resistant rubber soles on the bottom of their feet. And, figuring their prices, these kind of get pricey. Even their cheaper ones have problems too.

The way I stumbled across these, was to type in the search box of Internet Explorer(or www.bing.com) "adult blanket sleepers"(verbatim). I'm pretty sure you'll find a concise list there of companies to choose from. You could also do this same search at other search engines, but I'll let you know where I got these sites from, to start you off.
